Mikkelsen wins Romania rally driver award

Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion Andreas Mikkelsen has claimed yet more silverware after winning Rally Magazin’s Rally Drive of the Year Award in Romania last night (15 December).

Motor Media, a TV and video production company and publisher of the rallymagazin.ro website, organised the second edition of the Rally Magazin Awards, which took place in Bucharest. The ŠKODA UK Motorsport driver was unable to attend but sent a special video message instead.

It was a great achievement by the 22-year-old from Norway, who beat other nominees Sébastien Loeb, Sébastien Ogier, Mikko Hirvonen, Thierry Neuville and Juho Hänninen to the title.

“I’d like to thank Motor Media for this award, which I’m very proud to accept,” said Mikkelsen. “To beat such prestigious names to the title is a great honour, and it shows how significant the Intercontinental Rally Challenge has now become in motorsport. I’m looking forward to making my first visit to Romania next July for the Sibiu Rally, and as Rally Driver of the Year I’ll really have to try and prove that they made the best choice by winning!”
