Andreas Mikkelsen keen to add S-WRC campaign

Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion Andreas Mikkelsen is aiming to add a programme of Super 2000 World Rally Championship events alongside his IRC title defence in 2012.

Mikkelsen, who originally made his number at the top level as a Ford privateer in the WRC, is hoping to be back in the world championship in time for the Monte Carlo season opener.

"We are trying to do Monte Carlo but nothing is signed yet," he said. "We are working hard to put together a programme of SWRC rounds as well."

The Norwegian contested an Italian gravel championship campaign in parallel with his IRC outings this year, and said he wanted to make sure he was competing as often as possible in 2012 as well - especially if he could get more WRC stage mileage along the way.

"If you look at the best tennis players in the world they play tennis every day so why not do that with a rally car?" Mikkelsen mused. "But as well we would like to learn the stages in the WRC because that would be very good for the future."

Mikkelsen admitted that there was a particular attraction to going back to the Monte as he could try and make amends for his disastrous SS1 crash this year, when it was part of the IRC.

"Monte Carlo would be unfinished business for me and if we are doing Monte Carlo again my aim will be just to finish the event because it's one of those events that you learn so much just by doing it," he said.
